What Is Happening with Private Property Rights in the Capital? Expert Commentary

Tuesday, May 27, 2025, 16:43 Bishkek’s city government shows how it’s ready to resolve land issues In Bishkek, the mayor’s office has begun demolishing fences and buildings in the residential areas “Kyrgyzstan-1” and “Kyrgyzstan-2” along Chingiz Aitmatov Avenue. Officials claim the owners violated the red line, while local residents argue that the municipality lacks the necessary legal documentation. So what is happening with private property rights in the capital? Economist Iskender Sharsheev explains to Vesti.kg: “As we remember, the president previously returned the draft Land Code without his signature due to significant controversy. He demanded revisions to protect citizens’ rights to private property. The Bishkek mayor’s office also seemed open to negotiations with property owners,” he noted. The expert pointed out that the municipality referred to an outdated city master plan, which allegedly showed that property owners had violated the red line in the area. “However, on the other hand, the entire master plan remains classified. The authorities only disclose limited information. These misunderstandings will continue unless full documentation is made publicly available. But residents themselves must also remember: construction must comply with the law,” said Iskender Sharsheev. To clarify, city road workers, with permission from the mayor’s office and support from the police, began demolishing fences and structures along Aitmatov Avenue the day before. Today, Bishkek Mayor Aybek Junushaliev stated that the city had repeatedly informed property owners that the demolitions would proceed, as the rights of a few cannot override the interests of all city residents. He also said that the authorities are open to dialogue—but not at a rate of $100,000 per hundred square meters. 🔗 Learn more: https://vesti.kg/obshchestvo/item/139271-chto-proiskhodit-s-pravom-chastnoj-sobstvennosti-v-stolitse-kommentarij-eksperta.html #Bishkek #Kyrgyzstan #PrivateProperty #PropertyRights #UrbanDevelopment #LandDisputes #RedLine #BishkekMayor #RealEstate #HumanRights #UrbanPlanning #ChingizAitmatov #CityNews #VestiKG #IskenderSharsheev #LandCode #KyrgyzPolitics #Municipality #LegalRights #Demolition

Falls and Rises: How Gold Prices Changed in Kyrgyzstan in June and Since the Beginning of 2025

14:00, July 10, 2025, Bishkek – 24.kg, Nargiza TOKOEVA Recently, global gold prices have been rising at an unusually rapid pace, repeatedly hitting record highs. The market has now somewhat stabilized. The surge in demand for the precious metal has been driven by several powerful factors: Aggressive purchases by central banks (especially BRICS countries) aiming to reduce dependence on the US dollar; Global geopolitical and trade tensions (tariff wars, sanctions, and regional conflicts); Weakening of the US dollar. All of these factors have made gold more attractive as a safe-haven asset. According to the London market, the most recent record was set on April 22, 2025, when the price of one troy ounce reached $3,434 on the London exchange. However, Kyrgyzstan recorded its highest local gold price on June 16, 2025. On April 23 — the day global gold prices hit a historical high — the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan set the price at 305,507.5 soms per ounce. But on June 16, the ...

Expert: Kyrgyzstan’s GDP Should Reach $50 Billion

Tuesday, December 31, 2024, 14:31 What was 2024 like for the republic’s economy? Economist Iskender Sharsheev, speaking with Vesti.kg , believes Kyrgyzstan’s GDP ought to be around $50 billion. Reviewing the past year’s performance, he noted: “The current year, 2024, has been an upswing for Kyrgyzstan’s economy. The government’s announced achievements have been justified: our state budget is now one trillion soms, and our GDP, for the first time in history, has reached $14 billion. I hope this upward trend continues every year. For a country like ours, a more appropriate level of GDP would be around $50 billion, with a per capita GDP of $5,000–$7,000. Currently, it stands at about $2,000—up from $1,260–$1,300 previously.” Sharsheev added that the Cabinet of Ministers has continued indexing salaries and social benefits: “Military salaries have gone up, with some officers now earning around $1,000, which is significant. Pensions have increased as well, and there are new benefits ...
